New stuff! Rice cooker
SIOBHÀN’S FEEDFOODSHOPPING
I am quite pleased with myself because I made really good porridge my room using a rice cooker!
I ordered this little rice cooker a few weeks back when things were really bad and I thought I would give it a go as it means I don’t have to go downstairs in the kitchen. I bought it online and to be honest it looked a bit dodgy, there were no reviews, and I could not find this model anywhere else on the Internet. Didn’t even expect it to turn up, it did, and it works!
I had already heated up a can of soup, and cooked some rice in it. Slight problem with it at first, I can’t read Chinese. I got a translation though, and worked out it has four modes, boil, herbal tea/rice, stew, and another which I forget. I haven’t quite worked out the timer.
This morning I made a bowl of delicious porridge. It was a bit of an experiment, first of all I tried the setting but it was too slow so I used the rice setting. I think it’s still a bit slow but that’s actually pretty good for porridge, no aggressive heating, and the oats have time to soften up so it has a creamy consistency. The porridge wasn’t quite hot enough in the end so I gave it quick blast on the boil setting to heat it up.
The porridge oats I used were the better Morrisons own brand. Just half a cup, and a whole cup of water.
I added a pinch of salt, some cinnamon, some ground ginger, and some mixed nuts. Then a little oat milk, and some soft brown sugar.
Personally I think this is better than the porridge I have made on the stovetop in a pan.
