Pot noodling
SIOBHÀN’S FEED
I needed to eat and my landlady was going to Asda so I just needed to pick some things that I can do easily well I say easily but not really. So I made a list which included microwave rice a couple of smoothies and some pot noodles. I have had to suspend being vegan Because I just need to eat. and find something quick I have a kettle in my room so the pot noodles are accessible. Also bought some things to make tuna and mayonnaise wraps which I used to do a lot before I was vegan. They aren’t necessarily great for me, but may not be too bad on my gut and importantly, a form of comfort food.
I went to make a pot noodle then realised I do not have a fork and the forks are downstairs in the kitchen and my landlady is out and I cannot rely on her anyway. So I had no choice but to go downstairs and into the kitchen. I managed this to get into the kitchen with a great effort, and picked up a fork and attempted to mount the stairs. Halfway through I realised that it felt like I was about to strain every muscle in my leg and had to stop.
Fortunately, I made it back to the bedroom was able to pour the boiling water into the pot which was difficult because the kettle was full and everything feels like I’m lifting weights.
I ate my beef and tomato pot noodle wondering where the beef is what is the point of eating something supposedly meaty made from animal product but it doesn’t actually taste even of meat.
After my pot noodle ordeal, I decided to embark upon showering myself. I had not bathed in over a week at one point I managed to have a wash at the basin. My hair was getting matted together and horrible, partly because of the intense fever like sweats that my condition (ulcerative colitis) causes when it’s really bad.
I did it. I got into the shower. I had to be very cautious not to fall over. I washed my hair with shampoo and then put lots of conditioner in left that in and started to wash my body.
I managed to do that and I decided to make the most of it and push a bit further. I know it may not seem like a priority but I decided to start trying to shave my legs. I decided it would be best to sit down and shave under the shower. This was uncomfortable, but at least I wasn’t going to collapse and hurt myself. At that point I realised that I have started to look emaciated. My thighs have started to look like two sticks with a bit of flesh hanging off of them. The good news is currently I have a flat stomach. Yay. Not really. I managed to shave most of my legs And some other bits and then I had to stop because I knew I needed to lie down. I didn’t have the energy to dry myself in the bathroom properly so I wrapped the towel around me and I am now lying on the bed in the towel.
I have fresh bed clothes thanks to my friend Claire but actually changing them is a task in itself. Also with the sweating, I’m just going to get the new bed clothes smelly again though of course I know I will benefit from having fresh bed clothes.
So much has happened today but it’s all small things that are normally taken for granted. The good news is I’m learning a lot. And now I’m feeling a little bit more like myself again.
